Why Dignity Matters June 19, 1999 By Pat McArron |

How many times have you asked yourself, "Why didn't I think of that"? How many times have you said to yourself, "I wish I could do something about that"? Well, the good news is that someone has thought of it and is doing something about it. One organization that embodies what each of us wishes the Church would be like is Dignity. Dignity has made a difference in the lives of so many of us who attend a weekly Dignity Mass. Dignity has made a difference in the way our Church is approaching the subject of human sexuality. I can honestly say that Dignity has been responsible in part for the Church finally reaching out to the gay and lesbian Catholic in dioceses throughout the country. Dignity matters because Dignity is a voice of reason. Dignity matters because Dignity advocates equality. Dignity matters because Dignity will not compromise our belief in the goodness of human sexuality. Dignity needs your commitment and your support in return. For Dignity to continue to speak out on those issues important to you, Dignity needs you. Specifically Dignity needs your membership. If you are grateful for what Dignity has done for you as a member of the local faith community; if you find comfort and peace of mind at our weekly celebration of the Mass; if you agree with the belief that we are entitled to all the same sacraments that our fellow brothers and sisters enjoy...then you owe it to Dignity to become a member. The future of Dignity depends on it. Your personal commitment to Dignity will determine the future of this great organization that has done so much in the past quarter century to help bring the Catholic Church into the 21 century. I implore you to pitch in and show your support for Dignity by becoming a member. Cost is not a factor. Merely fill out a membership application and donate what you can, whatever that may be. Dignity matters - because Dignity cares about you. |
