Holiday Feasts

As I write this column Thanksgiving is just around the corner. A few weeks after that we will celebrate Christmas. For most of us these two holidays mean family, friends, big meals! However, there are others in our community not so fortunate. Yes I mean the community of Dignity; Yes I mean the community of San Diego; yes in this country, there are many, very many, far too many who won't be so fortunate. They may not have any family or friends or perhaps sufficient means to even have a hearty meal, possibly no meal at all. For many these special days will be just another day for them, perhaps even out on the streets.

On Sunday December 7th, Dignity San Diego will try to help alleviate this problem. From the generosity of Patrick Biggs and Katherine Kamrath grew the idea of our Christmas Project to feed the hungry of San Diego. Patrick and Katherine offered to donate their time and talents to do a concert for Dignity following our regular Mass that night. And I'm very proud of our Community Council for deciding to use this as a benefit to help feed those most in need. Indeed at our last Council meeting we even decided to donate the Mass collections that evening for this purpose.

While I know we will hardly even make a dent in the problem of food for everyone, I am none the less proud of all those members of our community who have stepped forward in an attempt to make a difference! I hope everyone reading this newsletter will make a concerted effort to attend both our Mass that evening and the "almost free" concert that follows. All we are asking is a donation of a food item or a cash donation. All food donations will go to the San Diego Food Bank for further distribution. All monetary donations, including the Mass collection, will be divided equally between Special Delivery San Diego and Mama's Kitchen for their meal programs!

Thank you Dignity San Diego for once again making me very very proud to be a member of this community!

Happy Holidays to All!

Mike
