Louis Marmet was born April 29,
1923 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the only child of John and Henrietta Marmet.
Louis served in the Army during
WW II and then worked as an accountant for Continental Insurance for 25 years.
Louis met Pat Landreth, his
life-partner of 40 years in the High Spot bar in Los Angeles in 1969. They had
been together ever since. When Louis took an early retirement in 1983, they
moved to San Diego.
Louis was diagnosed with cancer
four years ago and was given four months to live. Louis beat the odds and with
the help of Pat, Hospice, and Rusty, his faithful poodle, he lived another four
years.
At Louis' insistence, they were
legally married one year ago, June 18, 2008 and had their marriage blessed here
at Dignity on the following Sunday. Louis and Pat were with us for Mass on May
24th where he received his Last Sacrament.
Louis passed away peacefully at
Mercy Hospital with Pat at his side, Tuesday morning, May 26th. At his
request, Louis' ashes were scattered here at UUC in the canyon just below the
chapel. Remembering is the beginning of healing. May the gentle soul of our
brother Louis Marmet rest in peace! |
